Cultivare Xarel·lo of Domènech.Vidal, the best Spanish white wine

The iconic wine by Domènech.Vidal, recognised with the prestigious Spanish Wine Trophy at the International Wine Challenge

Cultivare Xarel·lo 2015 by Domènech.Vidal took the prestigious Spanish Wine Trophy at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London. This recognition ranks this wine as the best Spanish white for the second year (2016 and 2018). Marta Vidal, Vallformosa CEO, emphasised the relevance of this prestigious international recognition, since “it consolidates our commitment to maximum quality, with wines made from old vines of native varieties”. Marta Vidal adds that “we are proud to be able to situate our wines and cavas in the premier qualitative division worldwide”.

Cultivare Xarel·lo 2015 (PENEDÈS DO) is a Domènech.Vidal iconic wine made from a special selection of the best Xarel·los of the Penedès DO. Theses grapes are harvested by hand from a vine planted half a century ago, growing on the foothills of the Mountain of Sant Jaume in the municipality of Vilafranca del Penedès. The fruit is processed in artisan fashion, taking great care to express its full potential and nuances. The grapes are macerated with their skins after harvesting. They are pressed very gently and the must is put through three different winemaking processes in a cement tank, a new oak cask and a stainless steel tank before performing the special coupage and ageing in the bottle. In the glass, it shows pale yellow with greenish reflections. Its fruity aroma has floral and dry-grass touches combined with the characteristic notes of ageing in fine-grain oak casks. It is aromatic, well-structured and balanced, with an acidic hint and a long finish, full of personality.

The Cultivare family is completed with a red wine, also Premium-quality, made from the Sumoll and Cariñena varieties and aged in French oak casks.

The iconic Cultivare wines

Cultivare by Domènech.Vidal is much more than a wine, much more than a name, much more than a brand… it is a new way of doing things, of thinking and understanding vines and wines. Cultivare is the interpretation of its natural setting, applying our most creative facet to make each bottle unique and special… Cultivare is culture and also the highest expression of our terrain. We apply cultural practices, working with the native varieties that are best suited to it. It is the harvest of an idea that was nurtured down to the last note, from the vine to the bottle, from the design to the choice of name. Since their birth, Cultivare wines have expressed themselves through dance, music, plastic arts, video art and “Land Art”. These artistic expressions are blended with the wine’s harmonious notes.

Land Art on the label

Land Art is an artistic movement which uses natural materials such as stones, leaves or earth to make artistic creations. To make the new Cultivare labels, a ten-metre-long “natural machine”, built especially for the occasion, was installed in the middle of a vineyard in Vilobí del Penedès. One hundred vine branches acted as paint brushes to paint each of the labels at the pace of the wind. With a palette of colours differentiated for each variety, the movement of the branches makes each label a unique work of art. In this way, Cultivare has made the artistic expression of Land Art a unique moment to dress a unique wine with a unique label.

This week the Domènech.Vidal YouTube channel posted an artistic video showing the countryside surrounding the winery and the creation of the new labels with a natural machine. An audiovisual piece that joins the rest of the videos of Cultivare performances.
